As a wedding photographer, building relationships with other wedding vendors is not only one of the best parts of my job, it’s also essential for me AND for my clients. The more weddings I work, the more vendors I meet, and the more recommendations I can have for my couples! I wanted to start this new blog series to highlight some of my favorite vendors (and people!) in the wedding industry. I am so excited to kick off this series with one of the most incredible people and talented boss-ladies I’ve ever met. If you’re looking for a bakery for any of your wedding dessert needs – check out Oh Sweet! Bakery!
Tell me a little about yourself and your business!
My name is Sonya Vaverek and I own Oh Sweet! Bakery: an online boutique bakery located in Auburn GA. I have been baking my entire life. I did my first wedding 14 years ago and was hooked! I officially started Oh Sweet! Bakery in Spring 2020 and have been growing ever since.
How would you describe your design style?
My design style is classic and all about the buttercream! I do my absolute best to make sure my couple’s vision comes to life.
What sets you apart from other wedding bakeries?
What sets me apart is the flavors of my sweets and my customer service. It is important to me for the treats to have an amazing taste and to bring the couple’s vision to life.
Why should I get my cake/desserts from you?
You should get your cake/desserts from me because I will do everything I can to make sure you get exactly what you want for your wedding. I put so much love into my baking, and I believe it comes through in the end result.
What is your favorite part of running a business?
I love meeting new people and helping make their sweet dreams come true!
What are some trends you’re seeing right now with cakes/desserts that you really like?
I LOVE the Lambeth trend. Call me old fashioned, but I love the look. A dessert bar is also a great trend that lets guests have sweets without just having cake!
What words of wisdom do you have for 2025 and 2026 brides?
Book your vendors early, all of them!! Don’t wait, because your first choice may get booked quickly.
What advice do you have for brides looking for a cake artist?
I would suggest that you ask to see their past work and make sure it is in line with your vision. All cake artists have specialties or certain styles. Not all cake artists can do all the things.
What are some common questions your brides ask you?
Pricing is the biggest concern, and understandably so. Also timing for delivery, and extra fees. I also get a lot of questions about keeping the top tier of their cake. I don’t recommend this tradition. Year old cake is not good cake. I don’t care how well you wrap it and protect it. It is not going to be good cake. This is why I offer a 1-year anniversary cake to my couples.
What does a lead up to a wedding day look like at your business?
The week prior I check the contract and go over details for the wedding. I make sure I have all the details covered. I also check supplies and order anything I might need. The day prior, I bake the cake. I wait until the day of to decorate the cake or put together the desserts. I prefer fresh product vs. frozen, stored product.
What’s your favorite cake flavor?
My favorite flavor is vanilla cake with chocolate fudge frosting. I also love a good buttercream. I prefer my buttercream!!!
What is the most challenging cake you’ve ever made?
My most challenging cake was a 6 tier cake that had to travel 2 1/2 hours for delivery. The stress of transporting cake that far away, then stacking, it almost caused a panic attack!
What is your favorite cake you’ve ever designed?
Oh man, that is a tough one. I truly love all my cakes! I am not sure I can pick a favorite. The cakes represent the couples and individuals that order them. I am don’t think I can pinpoint a favorite!
If you could make a candle out of any of the baked goods you make, what scent would it be and why?
Cinnamon Roll. The smell of warm bread, butter, and cinnamon. That is the definition of what heaven smells like to me.
What do you like to do for fun outside of your business?
You mean there are things to do that are not baking??? I enjoy spending time with my adult children and my wonderful husband.
Tell me anything you want my readers to know here!
I love to bake; it truly brings me joy. I would love to bake for you!
